Today, June 22nd 2017, Nellie Crowley, our dear friend and past pupil, opened our new pitch. Our Parents Association have been amazing. The energy and enthusiasm that has gone into this project has been truly phenomenal and we, the teachers and children of Derrinacahara N.S. are so appreciative. The children love playing in the pitch and they have enjoyed exploring the Garrown river so much in the fine weather we’ve been having recently. What an asset both the pitch and the river are to our school. We are simply blessed.

Miss Deirdre Poff raises our E.U. flag.

This is the culmination of a year long project on the history, geography and culture of the E.U. Well done to the boys and girls from Miss Murphy’s and Mrs. Crowley’s classes who worked really hard at their E.U. projects. The printed submission to the E.U. Bluestar programme can be viewed in school.

Fun in the river!

Thank God for the sun and the beautiful weather we’ve been experiencing lately. The children have had so much fun exploring and just having simple fun in our river. We are so lucky here in Derrinacahara N.S. to have the river Garrown adjacent to our school. A huge ‘Thank You’ to our Parents Association who have made access to the river so easy.

What a wonderful day we had at the Waterfall Alpaca Farm next door to Castledonovan N.S. near Drimoleague. Emma introduced us to her Shetland pony, ‘Captain Jack’, the donkeys, alpacas, rabbits and of course the hens and pet cats. We took a walk by the waterfall and on our way fished for tadpoles in the stream. Idyllic! The lads were so well behaved, Emma treated them all to ice-cream in the little lodge.
